How many people do you know who have, at one time or the other, expressed a desire to start a business venture by themselves?
We would bet you definitely know quite a number. According to a study by the World Economic Forum, roughly 60% of young Africans see the opportunity to start a business by themselves.
However, a lot of these people never launch out and start. They have the drive and desire, but don’t do anything with it, even though there are now more diverse opportunities that could help transform their entrepreneurial dream into reality. One example is online trading, where people in other parts of the world have taken advantage of that to grow their wealth over time.
Of course, starting a business venture is certainly no joke. It is a process requiring careful planning, dedication and persistence. Starting a business successfully also requires careful self assessment. Success does not happen overnight.
These are all valid points to consider, but the main reason stopping most business-minded people from starting is something else entirely:
Many would-be entrepreneurs are afraid to just ... start.
The thought of starting a business may come with a lot of fear and apprehension. It is easy to feel like there’s so much to do and that you will never be able to start. But this does not have to be the case. With the right mindset, most of these fears can be dealt with.
Here are three things you need to stop telling yourself about starting a business.
1. “I am not ready to start.”
A common misconception many people have is that one day they will feel “ready” to commit to their dream of starting a business. So they spend their time waiting for that perfect day to come.
But the truth is that there is no perfect day. You will never feel “ready” to start a business. Successful people are those who don’t wait for the right time to start anything. They take advantage of the opportunities available to them and grow in skill and ability as they progress. With time, they grow into their dream business. What they do not do is procrastinate.
There is no “right” time. So stop waiting for it.
2. “I lack the ability to start a business.”
It is true that building a successful business requires learning new skills. This does not, however, mean you lack the ability to start a business, because the skills you need can always be learned.
For example, if you were to start a career in online trading and were totally new to the concept of the financial market, you could enroll in an academy to build the requisite skills so you're more confident in your skills and abilities to begin.
As long as you are willing to commit to the process of learning and improving yourself continually, you shouldn’t tell yourself you lack the ability to start a business. Focus on expanding your strengths and working on your weaknesses.
3. “I’m waiting for the perfect business opportunity.”
This is closely related to waiting for the perfect time to start a business. A lot of would-be entrepreneurs never commit to starting a business because they are constantly looking for a perfect opportunity.
Just like waiting for the right time, this is also a dead end because there are no “perfect” business opportunities. Every opportunity has its own risks and unique characteristics. Every opportunity comes with its worthwhile challenges.
However, this isn’t to say good, profitable business opportunities don’t exist; they do.
At FAB, we believe online trading is an ideal business opportunity for business-minded Africans looking to do business in the Global Financial Market. Online trading is a business that doesn’t involve high startup costs or strict entry requirements. All you need to do is learn the basics, open an account, and you can start trading.
If you’re looking for a good opportunity to start your business, you can start with online trading.
You can start your business now. There will always be a thousand and one reasons why this can wait. However, in this new age where online trading is transforming the business scene in Africa, you should take advantage. All you need to do is take that first step.
What are you waiting for?
